God cherishes obedience. He looks to us to see who will obey him. I have heard it be said before that delayed obedience is not obedience. Well, maybe so, but thank the Lord for his patience. Genesis 22:18, “And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.” Luke 11:28, “But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.”
Romans 12:1, “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.”
I Samuel 15:22-23, “And Samuel said, Hath the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams. 23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the Lord, he hath also rejected thee from being king.”
It is interesting to see that rebellion is the sin of witchcraft because how many times have acted in rebellion. And stubbornness is the sin of idolatry! When Jesus said to put others before ourselves, what exactly does mean? Probably more than we would like it to mean especially when I am driving!
I think we may confuse sacrifice with obedience. Sacrifice can become a prideful event. Keep your ways on target with God’s will. We can do this by prayer. I worry about people today as I am sure you do also, especially our family members because I see a time when there will be no more time available for people to turn to the Lord. It worries me because one day they will be separated from God. Tell all those about God’s salvation! When I am working with the homeless population, a lot of people say that they have already given their lives to Christ. Explaining what it means to accept salvation is necessary. It intrigues me to see people who say they have received Christ, but don’t obey him. Let’s not sacrifice our time or money or whatever it may be without obeying the Lord. Too many people need us to be close to God so we can spread the word!
