Witnessing: Back to the basics

Charles Spurgeon said that the gospel is news! It is something we need to know and information that needs to be broadcast. You must teach Christ! In his book the soul winner he says to teach what to believe in, what to repent of, what to be converted means, and to escape from what? He says the field of instruction is wide if men are to be made to know the truth that saves. P5. Grace needs to be spoken of and often to the unsaved and the saved individual. He goes into say teach the gospel clearly, affectionately, simply, and practically. Know these things before you witness and then you will do well to win souls. Pray for Holy Spirit wisdom and be genuine while witnessing. If we only want to add up numbers for our church we will grieve the Holy Spirit. Pray for the love that Christ has for the lost. It is interesting how some truth mixed with non truth occurs in some preaching, but I have always wondered how it can still lead individuals to Christ. Charles Spurgeon says that “I venture to assert that God does not bless falsehood; he may bless the truth which is mixed up with error; but much more of blessing would have called if the preaching had been more in accordance with his word.” P6. He says that we have to preach the total depravity of man without God. Today that is even more needed in our churches so remember when witnessing to teach this.

Here are some points to know before you witness contained in Zion’s Fire Vol. 29, No.1 p. 12-18

  1.  Jesus Christ is God:  John 10:30 “I and my Father are one.”

John 1:3 “All things were made by him (Jesus); and without him was not any thing made that was made.”

Colossians 1:16 “For by him (Jesus) were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him.”

Philippians 2:11 “And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

Romans 10:9 “…If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”

2.  Jesus Christ is the only way to salvation

John 14:6 “I am the way, the truth, and the life:  no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

Acts 4:12 “Neither is there salvation in any other:  for there is none other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved.”

John 3:36 “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life:  and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.”

I John 5:11-12 “And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.  He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son hath not life.”

3.  We are all Sinners

Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”

Isaiah 53:6 “All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.”

p. 15 “People are not condemned for a particular action, but for being born separated from God. In other words, humanity’s natural state is separation from and adversity to God.”  This is a very good point that Mr. Ettinger makes.  This would be a good statement to remember when asked if a particular action is a sin or not.  You can immediately say that it is not a particular action that condemns us, but the fact that we are already separated from God.  And this is what needs to be fixed before we can deal with particular sins.  I am not saying that we should not expose sin, but the natural state of man if fallen.

4.  The Consequences of Being a Sinner

Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

Hebrews 9:27 “And asd it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.” David Ettinger (p16) says and I agree, there is no reincarnation.

5.  We cannot Save Ourselves:  p. 16 “A person’s good works will be of no avail; salvation is of Christ alone.

Isaiah 64:4 “But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags”

Ephesians 2:8-9 “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves:  it is the gift of God:  Not of works, lest any man should boast.”

Titus 3:5 “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost.”

6.  God Paid the Penalty for Us

Romans 5:8 “But God commendeth his love towards us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

Hebrews 4:15 “For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.”

Romans 5:8 “But God commendeth his love towards us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

I Peter 3:18 “For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the spirit.”

7.  Confessing Christ and Receiving Him as Savior

John 1:12 “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.”

John 1:12 “…If thou shalt confess with they mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”

Exhortation to repent: Holman rainbow Study Bible kjv Hosea 6:1-3. “Come, and let us return unto the Lord: for he has torn, and he will heal us; He hath smitten, and he will bind us up. After two days will he revive us: in the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight. Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the Lord: his going forth is prepared as the morning; and he shall come on to us as the rain, as the latter and former rain upon the earth.”

Offer your life to Christ and he will use you no matter how much you have or don’t have. Once you offer Christ yourself for his service he will use you because of his great love for the lost and for you. He will expand your offering to reach many! Pray before each day that the Holy Spirit will open the hearts and minds of those you encounter. Don’t be afraid of others saying you can’t be a soul winner. God sees all and he knows what you are doing for him. Isn’t it wonderful when we see the Lord work through us!!! Exciting so spread the word!!! Herald it out!!!
